Asheville to Mt. Airy NC

Posted in roads at 2:29 pm by admin

I just got back from a trip to Mt Airy to see my parents. I left Saturday going I-40 east from Asheville to Statesville, then getting on I-77 north towards Elkton to Mt. Airy North Carolina. The town is located near the Virginia state line. There were a few cars pulled over for speeding I assume. There is a $250.00 spending penalty if you get caught. anyways, Traffic was very light. I had no difficulty getting on either interstate. Today, was about the same. I left fairly early today though to beat the rush home.

I stopped at the rest area on I-40 East just passed Hickory North Carolina Sunday on my way to Mt. Airy. I am happy to report that it was clean and well maintained. There was adequate paper towels and toilet paper. There was maintenance workers on the grounds working. There were picnic tables, walking paths and adequate parking.

gas prices 2007 NC

Posted in roads at 1:34 pm by admin

gas prices in Mt. Airy were 2.88 a gallon. They were 2.85 a gallon in Statesville and 2.96 a gallon in Asheville this past weekend. traffic wasn’t too bad on Saturday. I-77 wasn’t too bad at all today. There were spots around exits where traffic was heavier. Lots of trucks but its Monday another work day. It wasn’t too bad today on I-40 going west. Going east was another story. There was construction going on between Hickory and Statesville creating bottlenecks and slower traffic as well. Traffic increased considerably when coming into Asheville too. Around the exits on I-40 it was very hectic, you couldn’t get over to let cars in and everyone was riding your tail. Which brings up another point, does anyone do the speed limit anymore. There are points on both I-40 and I-77 that change from 70 miles per hour to 60 mph. I lowered my speed to the speed limit, and everyone passed me like I was standing still. Going up Old Fort mountain, the speed limit is 55 mph, however I was the only one doing this speed.
