Blowing Rock Hotels

Blowing Rock NC is located off US 321 close to Boone NC and Banner Elk. The Blowing Rock is a cliff 4000 ft above sea level and hangs over Johns river Gorge.

The Gorge forms a Flume which causes the air current to flow upwards causing snow to fall upside down.

On a clear day you can see for miles, according to Native American myth or legend, if you throw an object off Blowing Rock, the wind will pick it up and throw it back to you.

Southwest from Blowing Rock, you can see  Hawksbill Mountain and Table Mountain. To the west of Blowing Rock are Mt Mitchell and Grandfather Mountain.

Blowing Rock is open March through November. Winter months open on weekends if the weather permits.

Nearby attractions

Whitewater rafting on nearby Nolichucky and Watauga Rivers. There are hiking trails here.

Blue Ridge Parkway with over 400 miles of scenic highway, beautiful in the Fall when leaves are changing, protected by National Park service.

Mystery Hill - Mystery Platform and Mystery house - unexplained phenomenon's. attractions include Native American artifacts over 50000 artifacts collected from Georgia and 23 other states - arrowheads, pottery, knives and more.

Bob Timberlake Gallery features the artwork of Bob Timberlake who was encourage by Andrew Wyeth. The Bob Timberlake Gallery has furniture and home furnishing, original paintings, collections of canoes, decoys, homemade quilts, civil war artifacts, art reproductions, prints, and posters. Also located in Lexington, NC.

Moses Cone National Park is the Parkway Craft center located at mile marker 294 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The center features Craft demonstrations.

Tweetsie Railroad - near Boone, a historic locomotive number 12, coal fired, originally carried passengers from Johnson City TN to Boone NC. Also, Wild West Town, mountain dancing, 1800 Saloon show, cowboys and Indians, Miners Mountains, Deer Park, shopping and events.

Boone NC is located off US 421 or US 321. Boone is a NC ski resort. The visitors center is at 208 Howard St. The main roads to and around Boone are: US 321, US 421, NC 105, NC 194.Mast Farm General Store in Boone was built in 1883. The Appalachian State College Campus (ASC) is located here. The Appalachian Cultural Museum in Boone NC is apart of Appalachian State College. The museum features exhibits on 19th century life in Appalachia with antiques, sewing machines, quilts, clocks, moonshine still, spinning wheels. There is a Junior Johnson and Nascar exhibit. Other exhibits feature native American artifacts, household furnishing, books, ledgers and more.Appalachian Summer Festival is held in July featuring music, dance, art, theater. Horn of the West is the outdoor drama play about American revolution and Daniel Boone it is featured in an amphitheater. It is held in  late July thru mid August. Nearby Valle Crucis NC is the rural historic district with many sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic buildings include a cabin, conference center, church and more. Banner Elk NC is southwest of Boone on NC 194 and NC 184. The town is at  the foot of Beech Mountain. You can go Skiing here. Lees McRae College is located in Banner Elk. Nearby NC Ski resorts: Beech Mountain, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Hound Ears, Sugar Mountain, and Ski Hawks nest. Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain offer mountain biking. Beech Mountain ski resort is 5506 ft in elevation. Things to do: Snow tubing, snow boarding, skating, skiing, golf
