Cradle of Forestry is a National Historic Site located off US 276 in the Pisgah National Forest. It is the first school of Forestry in America called the Biltmore Forest School 1898-1913. Considered the birthplace of forestry education in America. On the grounds are restored and reconstructed building of school and exhibits of forestry equipment, 1915 logging locamotive, a steam powered sawmill, film and hiking trails.
Davidson River is a good place for Trout fishing. The water is ice cold. The River is stocked with brook trout, brown trout and rainbow trout. You can also go hiking, biking and camping in the area.
