Bentonville Battleground State Historic Site is the site of the last major battle of the civil war that took place in March 1865. The battleground is located in Johnston county near Newton Grove off US 701 SR 1008. There is a visitors center with exhibits. The Harper House, on the grounds, served as a field hospital for both the Confederacy and Union cemetery.
