Grandfather mountain is the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains and located between Linville and Blowing Rock North Carolina. It is Northwest of Linville NC on US 221 and off the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 305.9 Grandfather mountain, 5,964 ft, is the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Grandfather mountain has miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, nature museum, visitor center. It is a Privately owned park No bicycles are allowed Mile High Swinging bridge is the highest footbridge in America and suspends over a mile over sea level. Grandfather mountain is an International Biosphere reserve. There are only 324 biospheres in the world. 47 rare and endanger animals live on Grandfather mountain. These animals include panthers, black bears, American Bald Eagles and more. Between Oct 5-25 is the Peak for Fall leaves colors Nature Museum offers exhibits and films on endangered animals, wildflowers, birds and the weather. Rhododendron and Azalea bloom every June and July blanketing the mountain with vivid color. Grandfather Mountain is the location for the Scottish Highland Games and gathering of the clans the 2nd full weekend in July. There is highland Scotts dancing, bag pipe competitions, Scottish music, a Ceilidh and more. The finale on Sunday is the Parade of Tartans. Shuttle buses to the games. Admission fee. Singing on the mountain is an all day gospel sing held the 4th Sunday in June. Linn Cover Viaduct
