Wrightsville Beach is east of Wilmington on US 74/76 and located on the following 2 islands, Harbor Island and Wrightsville Beach. These are barrier islands. There is a fishing pier and Charter boats.

Surfing at Wrightsville Beach is a good experience for the beginner or experienced surfer. The waves here are gentle due to the combination of warm air, the Gulf stream and the sand bars. There are surf shops and outfitters who can rent you a surf board and give you lessons too. Attend the surf camp which teaches kids, teens and adults to surf.
Fishing tournaments held in Wrightsville Beach each year include The King Mackerel tournament held in September at Wrightsville Beach and The Cape Fear Blue Marlin tournament is held in late July. There are other beach sports events held during the summer too.

Wrightsville Beach has the oldest resort in NC which is the Carolina Yacht Club which was built in 1853.
